No flap is created; instead, the outer layer of the cornea is removed. The laser then reshapes the cornea directly. Recovery may take a bit longer compared to LASIK.
Procedure
Both LASIK and PRK use an excimer laser to reshape the cornea, allowing light to focus correctly on the retina.
Candidates
Generally, candidates should be over 18, have stable vision for at least a year, and have healthy eyes.
Risks
Possible side effects include dry eyes, glare, halos, and changes in vision. Serious complications are rare but can include infection or overcorrection/undercorrection.
Recovery
Recovery time varies; LASIK usually has a quicker recovery than PRK.
